INTRINSIC GOALS (rough draft)
To change any bad habit, one must first become aware of it. Violence is so ingrained in our minds and in our societies, its roots are often overlooked as normal every day activity. We must change this! Our goal is to raise individual conciousness of how each of us currently promote violent actions and violent thoughts.
The short selections read before each week's moment of silence will be aimed to provoke internal thought as to how our actions inadvertantly build upon the violent energy in the world and help create a hostile environment for so many people. This is far more than just an issue with ending wars. Since violence stems from our own hearts and minds, we will focus a bit more on conflicts we find in our own lives (interpersonal, communal, cultural, and political).
-
Violence in schools
- Violence toward specific groups, races, and genders
- Violence between neighbors (on the road, in the stores, on the streets, and in our homes)
- Violence in our thoughts and in our words, that can build and promote other acts of violence....
